Manufacturing method
Galvanized steel sheet is a material obtained by galvanizing SPCC (cold-rolled steel sheet). SPCC is a relatively cheap and easy-to-obtain steel plate with excellent workability, so it is often used for forming such as bending and deep drawing. But SPCC is extremely prone to rust, so basically surface treatment is required. Surface treatment of SPCC includes various methods such as painting and plating, among which galvanized steel sheets are galvanized.
Features
Plating is a surface treatment that forms a thin metal film on a metal surface. Among them, the one that forms a zinc film is called galvanizing. Zinc combines with oxygen in the air to form a passivating oxide film. Therefore, it is characterized by a very high anti-rust effect.
In addition, since zinc has a higher ionization tendency than iron, it also has the characteristic of being oxidized faster than iron. Therefore, if galvanizing is performed on iron (steel), even if a small scratch is temporarily formed on the galvanized surface and the iron inside is exposed, the surrounding zinc will be preferentially corroded, thereby having the effect of preventing iron from corroding. This phenomenon is called sacrificial corrosion. Therefore, galvanizing is mainly performed on iron (steel).
